At St George’s we want to learn more about the Bible, God’s word, so that we can apply it to our lives. At present, we have regularly bible study groups meeting for four or five weeks at a time to look at a particular book or theme.
Advent Bible Study
Come and explore the wonderful letter to the Ephesians which celebrates the amazing love and unity which we share as members of the Body of Christ. Mondays 21st, 28th November, 5th, 12th, and 19th December. At 7pm in the vestry in church. Come and join us, no previous knowledge (or even bible) required.
This autumn we are running an Alpha course at St George’s. Alpha is a series of sessions exploring the basics of the Christian faith which has been running for over twenty years. In that time, over 27 million people worldwide have taken the course. It is an opportunity to explore questions of faith in a relaxed and conversational environment, and huge numbers of people have found it an invaluable opportunity to explore the meaning of life.
Alpha at St George’s will run on Tuesday evenings at 7pm for 8 weeks, beginning on Tuesday 27 September. If you are a student at London South Bank University, we will also be offering Alpha on Monday evenings at 6pm, starting on Monday 3 October. To read more about the course, see www.alpha.org/try. If you would like to know more, or to sign up for the course, please email Fr Sam. We look forward to hearing from you!
Our music group helps lead our worship at our Sung Eucharist. We meet to practice – and learn simple singing technique – on Mondays at 6pm in Church. No previous singing experience is required or the ability to read music. Ask any member of the group it is great fun and very encouraging! To find out more please Jonathan Pix at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Godwine Choir
For more experienced singers who are comfortable sight-reading, the Godwine Choir is a group of mainly young singers who give regular classical concerts. They rehearse at St George’s on Wednesdays at 6.30pm and occasionally sing at Sunday services. If you are interested in finding out more about their concerts or joining then please contact Alex Davan Wetton at email@example.com.
Our Sunday School meets on most Sunday’s during ‘term time’ during the main Sunday service and is intended to enable primary school children to explore their faith and learn about God’s word in a context which is appropriate for them. Once a month, we have all-age worship and the Sunday School does not meet. Please check the church calendar for forthcoming dates.
A group of young adults and students meets once a month to have supper together and discuss something topical. We do discuss some serious issues but its not a serious occasion. It’s friendly, fun and welcoming. Details for the Autumn will follow shortly – watch this space! Please contact Fr Jonathan to find out more.
Preparation to receive Holy Communion
We prepare children who wish to receive Holy Communion who are aged 7 or above with the agreement of their parent(s) or guardian(s). First communion course will begin in October. Details from Max Marsh, Pastoral Assistant.
We also prepare teenagers and adults for the Sacrament of Confirmation. This is normally done in groups. Adult and young people’s confirmation preparation courses begin in September. Details from Fr Jonathan or Fr Sam.
