Life Events and Pastoral Care

We welcome anyone who is looking to the church at the time of a major life event – whether joyful or sad.

Pastoral Support

We firmly believe that the church is here for everyone and if you are in need of pastoral care and support or prayer then you are warmly welcome to make contact with one of the priests to make an arrangement to meet. You can contact Fr Jonathan or through the Parish Office.

Baptism

208We warmly welcome anyone living in the parish or worshipping with us regularly to come for baptism or to bring children for baptism. Baptisms are normally held as part of our main Sunday Service and involve some preparation with one of the priests. To make an enquiry about a baptism contact Fr Jonathan, the Parish Office or speak to one of the priests after a service.

Marriage

Anyone living in the parish, worshipping regularly with us or with a family connection to the parish can be married in church (subject to certain legal exceptions defined by Parliament). If you would like to discuss getting married in church please speak to Jonathan either after a service or through the parish office. The Church of England is not allowed by law to conduct same-sex marriages. At St George’s we are delighted to offer services of celebration, commitment and prayer after civil partnership, same-sex marriage or any other civil marriage. Please speak to Fr Jonathan or Fr Sam.

Funerals

If you would like the funeral of a loved one to take place in church or if you would like one of the priests to conduct the service for you and to offer you pastoral support you can make contact with us either through a funeral director or directly with Fr Jonathan or the Parish Office

Blessings and other celebrations

There are many other situations in life when people may seek a blessing, prayer for support or encouragement or celebration and we warmly welcome you to speak to one of the priests or contact us at if you would like to make an enquiry.

Confession

Arrangements for confession – or the sacrament of penance as it is sometimes called – should be made directly with Fr Jonathan.
